British Institute for Geological Conservation Committee: Dr W.A.P. Wimbledon Dr W.A.P. Wimbledon is the Senior Geologist for the Countryside Council for Wales (http://www.ccw.gov.uk/). He was formerly Head of the Nature Conservancy Council's Geological Conservation Review Unit, which was responsible for selecting all the geological Sites of Special Scientific Interest in Britain, and also editor-in-chief of the GCR publication series (NCC/JNCC). He is secretary of ProGEO (http://www.sgu.se/hotell/progeo/), the European Association for Conservation of the Geological Heritage, whose work was recently promoted by a decision of ministers of the Council of Europe. He has worked to further sharing of good geoconservation practice between the countries of Europe, and guided the Digne, Roma, Madrid and Braga International Symposia that have taken this aim forward. He is a Senior Research Fellow at the University of Bristol, and a member of both the Jurassic and Cretaceous subcommissions of IUGS's Commission on Stratigraphy (ICS; http://www.stratigraphy.org), and chairman of the J-K boundary working group, determining the position of this system boundary globally.
